TUT: What Is Android Rooting? [PROS and CONS]

:
A lot has been said about rooting your Android smartphone, so much that even my girlfriend is a root expert. However, with the high influx of affordable Android smartphones in the market these days, countless people still have no heard about Rooting, its numerous advantages and its disadvantages as well.

WHAT IS ANDROID ROOTING?

Rooting your Android smartphone simply means gaining complete access to your smartphone. It means giving yourself or applications admin rights to your smartphone and allows you to edit system files, system settings, and other hidden features which normally won' be accessible to a regular user.
It is similar to using the Administrator account on Windows.

It basically pulls down all restrictions the manufacturer might have out in place and is similar to jailbreaking an iOS smartphone.

BENEFITS OF ROOTING

There are countless advantages of gaining full access to your android smartphone. Please note that it is not limited to the underlisted ones.

  • Gives you the best of your phone with apps which only work or work best when your phone is rooted. Apps such as Titanium Backup for backing up your phone works bes when your phone is rooted.
  • Remove bloatware: Bloatware are those unwanted useless apps which the phone manufaturer installed on your phone from the factory. These apps may be unable to uninstall unless you have root access on your smartphone.
  • Install Custom ROMS:  Currently my Tecno P5 which was originally shipped with Android 4.2.2 currently runs a Kitkat (Android 4.4) themed ROM. Installing Custom ROMS can be only done with root access.
  • Better Backup: Once rooted you can go way, way deeper. Grab an app called Titanium Backup. Not only can it back up all of your apps, but it can back up all of the information stored in those apps. So if you've been doing great in Temple Run but you want to wipe your phone and start fresh, you can use Titanium to back up and then restore the game, and you'll be right where you left off. It's a nice security blanket if you're going to be messing around deep in your phone's brain.
  • Customize your phone: You can change your phone's startup one,  startup logo and countless other customizations.

CONS OF ROOTING

In spite of the seemingly endless reasons for you to root your phone, there are some disadvantages.
Rooting your phone may void your phone's warranty and you may end up soft-bricking or hard-bricking your phone (more on other tutorials) and end up paying a technician to fix it.

Above all, the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages and a true Android user should not hesitate in rooting his or her phone.
